Jos – A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a labourer, Suleiman Haruna, to seven months imprisonment for stealing vehicle parts belonging to one Agbo Ezekiel.
Haruna, a resident of Yankoli Dilimi, Jos, was charged with theft, which contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
The Magistrate, Mrs Helen Danboyi, handed down the sentence after the accused pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court for mercy.
The prosecutor, Sgt. George David, earlier told the court that one Ezekiel reported the matter at Anglo Jos Police Station on Jan. 17.
He claimed that on that same day, he parked his Siena bus in his compound and the accused opened the said vehicle.
David said he stole two tyres, valued at N20, 000, one jack valued at N5, 000, two speakers, valued at N8, 000 and wheel spanner valued at N3, 000.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the accused admitted committing the crime.
