Lagos bans Opay, Gokada, Okadas, tricyles

Commercial motorcycles, popularly called Okada,Opay and Gokada, and tricycles, known as Keke Napep, have been banned by Lagos State Government from operating in 15 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Centres .

They are also banned from operating on bridges and highways.

In a press briefing by the Commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotosho on Monday, the government said the full enforcement of the ban would commence on February 1, 2020.


The commissioner stated that Okada, Gokada and Oride have been restricted from operating in 15 Local Governments and Local Council Development Centres. They are Apapa, Apapa Iganmu, Lagos Mainland, Yaba, Surulere, Itire Ikate, Coker Aguda, Eti-Osa, Lagos Island, Ikeja, Onigbonbo, Ojodu, Ikoyi-Obalende, Iru Ikoyi-Obalende and Lagos Island East.

The ban was also communicated to the public in a tweet by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat.
