Lagos – A medical doctor aspiring for chairmanship of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area in Lagos, Dr Olatunde Olusunmade, has appealed to the state government to improve road infrastructure in the area.
Olasunmade, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
The aspirant said the major development challenge in Ejigbo was poor condition of roads.
He said situation was affecting easy movement of people and goods in and out of the area.
Olusunmade commended Gov Akinwunmi Ambode for his interventions in road infrastructure across the state, and expressed the hope he would address the challenge in the area.
“Ejigbo is a peripheral area. It is not a city centre and has not enjoyed development like other areas of the state, especially as it was formerly under Oshodi/Isolo LGA which had many areas to cater for.
“If you go to Ejigbo, the major problem is poor roads and I have said at different fora that emergency should be declared in the area of road infrastructure,” he said.
The aspirant said there was also the need to build more primary schools in the area to cope with the increasing number of pupils.
Olusunmade, however, said the area fared well in access to health care, with nine functional primary health facilities.
He said the only thing needed was upgrade of facilities and improved staffing.
The aspirant said he was gunning for the position of Chairman in the area to touch lives and improve infrastructure.
Olusunmade said his medical practice experience would particularly help him to improve healthcare, if elected chairman.
He said he had a medical facility in the area that had provided affordable healthcare to people, especially the poor.
Olusunmade added that he had the political experience to provide grassroots governance in Ejigbo as he was once a councillor in the area.
He said he formally declared his intention to contest on Thursday and the turnout at the venue was massive.
The medical doctor said the crowd at the declaration venue was a measure of his popularity and acceptance by the people.
“I thank my supporters, traditional rulers, religious leaders, artisans for the show of love and I promise not to disappoint them,” he said.
The aspirant said the APC was the only party that had the right policies for the masses and urged Lagosians to vote for the party at the poll.
NAN reports that the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has fixed July 22 for the poll and July 29 for run-off.
