Lagos: PDP will take over governance at grassroots – Lawmaker

Lagos – A Lagos lawmaker, Mr Dipo Olorunrinu, on Wednesday said that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was determined to take over governance at the grassroots in the state in next council polls.

Olorunrinu, representing Amunwo-Odofin I at the Lagos State House of Assembly, disclosed this during a media parley in Ikeja.

He said that the party had its eyes on chairmanship of many local governments in the state in the coming council polls

The legislator said that though the PDP had been having some issues which led to changes in the dates of its congresses in Lagos, they were all aimed at making it stronger.

“ We want to see how not to fail again as a party,” he said, noting that the changes should not portray the party as one without a good structure.

He, however, said that the party was not satisfied with the membership of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) as constituted by the state government.

Assessing the performance of Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, Olorunrinu said the government had been ‘transparent and democratic’.

“I will assess Ambode’s government as transparent and responsive. It has been a government that is listening; the processes are actually democratic and follow due process.

“Ambode has been excellent and quite encouraging in the last one year,” he said.

The lawmaker said that the opposition members were not in the House to come and create problems but to move the state forward.

He said that they were committed to moving the state forward and ensuring that dividends of democracy got to the masses.

Olorunrinu said that he was committed to delivering his campaign promises to people in his constituency. (NAN)
