Lafia – The wife of the Nasarawa State Governor, Hajia Salamatu Al-Makura, has tasked women in the state to keep their environments clean in order to prevent the spread of Lassa Fever.
She made the call in Lafia on Thursday while hosting the wives of lawmakers from the state House of Assembly.
According to her, the importance of good sanitary habit toward curtailing the spread of Lassa fever in the society cannot be over-emphasized, hence the need to maintain hygiene.
“As custodians of food items, we must always ensure that the items are properly kept in places that rats will not gain access to them.

, members of the public should stop eating it for now and take urgent steps to prevent it from gaining access to food items,” she said.
The governor’s wife called on the legislators’ wives to sensitise women in their various constituencies on dangers of the virus.
Al-Makura also urged the women to mobilise and encourage women to take their children for immunization in order to prevent killer diseases like polio and measles.
She, however, promised to collaborate with the group to sensitise women and youths on the need to shun violence but embrace peace to ensure speedy development in the state.
The governor’s wife, therefore, urged them to support programmes and policies embarked upon by the present administration.
