Kafinhausa (Jigawa) – Alhaji Yusif Ahmed-Soja, a member of the Jigawa State House of Assembly (JGHA) has distributed strengthening equipment worth N5 million to 300 women and youth in his constituency.
Ahmed-Soja, representing Bulugu State Constituency, made the disclosure at the distribution exercise on Monday in Kafinhausa, Jigawa.
He disclosed that N500, 000 would be disbursed to 50 women to enable them to start their businesses while 81 indigent students would receive N405, 000 bursary support.
Ahmed-Soja said that Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration scratch cards would also be distributed to 111 candidates.
Other items distributed include a car and one motorcycle; 10 sewing and 25 grinding machines as well as 120 bundles of textile materials.
The lawmaker noted that the gesture was to complement the state government’s efforts toward job creation and poverty alleviation.
Ahmed-Soja urged those who are yet to benefit from the programme to exercise patience, saying that more people would participant in subsequent batches of the empowerment scheme.
Also speaking, Alhaji Garba Abdullahi, the Chairman, Kafinhausa Local Government Council, commended the gesture and urged the beneficiaries to ensure effective utilization of the equipment to become self-reliant.
One of the beneficiaries, Mohammad Abdullahi, thanked the lawmaker over the gesture and promised to engage in productive activities.
