ABUJA (Sundiata Post) Sometimes in 1981, the then Commissioner for Health under the administration of the late Chief Adekunle Ajasin in Ondo State, Mr. Olawunmi Falodun, traveled to India to buy drugs as part of the fulfilment of the campaign promises of his party, Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, to provide free health care delivery for the people.
After making his purchases in Bombay, he discovered that he still had excess of N5,000 (about $6,500 then). He did not a buy a pin for himself. Rather, he came home and called the Commissioner for Finance and handed the excess N5,000 to him with the instruction that the money be returned to the treasury. He also backed this up with a memo to the governor.
Now, as at the time this man returned this money, a brand new Peugeot 504 was going for N7,500 and return ticket to London was N500!
When he left office, he returned to his old house and cleaned up his old Peugeot 504 he had before being appointed commissioner.
And what did he do after office? He set up a continuing education centre called National High School, Oye-Ekiti.
Baba is old now and in his mid-80s and lives in Odo-Oro Ekiti.
