Luka Modric has beaten Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah to win the 2018 UEFA Men’s Player of the year.

Modric broke the duopoly jinx of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi who have both won the award for a combined 4 years.

The Croatian becomes the fifth player to lift the gong after Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Frank Ribery and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo lifted the 2017 award to make his third after winning in 2014, 2016 and 2017.

Messi won the award twice in 2011 and 15. Iniesta and Ribery both won the award once in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

Speaking after receiving the award gong, Modric said he kept on believing in himself to perform more and win more awards.

Modric was also crowned the Best Midfielder in Europe for the 2017/2018 season.
