Nassarawa-Eggon – Mr Labaran Maku, the National Secretary of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on Tuesday urged the Nasarawa State House of Assembly to lift the suspension placed on six of its members.
Maku, Minister of Information and Communications during former President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration made the appeal while responding to questions from newsmen in Nasarawa-Eggon.
He said the constituencies of the suspended legislators had been denied representation on serious legislative matters affecting their people.
Maku said that the suspended members, who are of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), were suspended for allegedly challenging the decision of the state government on the appointment of sole administrators for local government areas.
“When the governor appointed sole administrators for 11 out of the 13 local government areas in the state, the six suspended members said it was illegal to appoint sole administrators.
“They were quoted as saying that the LGA law in the state did not empower the governor to appoint sole administrators.
” It is sad that even the lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who are supposed to be the voice of the voiceless and check the excesses of the executive, were supporting the illegality,” he said.
He urged the people from the constituencies of the suspended members to identify with the legislators while defending the law.
Maku advised the assembly to live above board by always speaking for the people of their constituencies and defending the law at all times.
NAN reports that the state assembly, then presided over by its Deputy Speaker, Godiya Akwashiki (PDP/Nasarawa -Eggon) had on April 5, suspended six members for alleged “misconduct and bringing the House into disrepute”.(NAN)
