Makurdi – A Makurdi Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of a 32-year-old farmer, Ahangba Utorugh, in prison custody over alleged armed robbery.
Utorugh of Mbagir, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue, was on Tuesday docked before a Magistrate, Mrs Franca Yuwa, for alleged conspiracy and armed robbery.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Adama Owoicho, told the court that the offence was reported to a team of Police State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) attached to the Logo Local Government Area by one Jacob Tarnongu of Ugba town on June 30.
He said that the complainant reported to the team, led by Insp. Gabriel Utorugh, that he was attacked while returning from Gbagir village on his motorcycle with one Ushana Aondonengen on that fateful day.
According to him, on reaching Gondu-Zua village in Ukum Local Government area, three young men armed with cutlasses and knives emerged from behind, on a motorcycle.
“The armed men knocked us down and forcefully collected from me my Red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle valued at N120, 000 and a cash sum of N5, 000.
The prosecutor said that the victim was able to identify the accused persons as one of those who attacked them in the course of investigation.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
Owoicho said the act contravened Sections 6(b) 1(1) (2) (a) (b) of the robbery and firearms (special provisions) Act, Cap RII, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
He, however, applied for an adjournment, to enable him conclude investigation into the matter.
However, the court could not take the plea of the accused, for want of jurisdiction, and adjourned the matter to Oct. 15, for mention. (NAN)
