Man, 26, docked for allegedly stealing cables worth N 240, 000

Lagos – A 26-year old man, Johnson Odetola, on Wednesday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing cables valued at N240,000, property of Mr Sampson Akpan.

The accused pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of unlawful entry and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Francisca Okere, told the court that the accused committed the alleged offences on Jan. 2 at about 8 p.m., at Ikate- Elegunshi in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.

She said that the accused unlawfully entered a site belonging to Samson Akpan and stole 400 metres of armoured wires and 19 rolls of electric wires, all valued at N240,000.

“ The accused entered into the site and was carting away the wires when he was sighted by the supervisor of the place, Mr Julius Sani who raised an alarm.

“Odetola was apprehended with the wires in his possession,’’ she told the court.

Okere said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 306 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Magistrate L.A. Owolabi in his ruling granted bail to the accused in the some of N40, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Owolabi adjourned the matter to Feb. 22 for hearing. (NAN)
