Man, 39, Faces N200,000 Wire Theft Charge

Lagos, – An unemployed man, Faruq Kazeem, who allegedly entered into a construction site and stole the switch of a pumping machine and electric wire worth N200,000, on Wednesday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Kazeem, 39, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing and burglary.

The prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Oct. 14, at 5.00 a.m. at Igando Community Road, Ijegun, Lagos.

He said the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by entering into a construction site owned by one Mrs Sidikat Bernard, without her permission.

Aigbokhan stated that the defendant stole an electric wire and switch of a pumping machine worth N200,000, belonging to Mrs Bernard.

He said the offences contravened Sections 168 (d) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Kazeem, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State government.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Dec. 6 for mention. (NAN)
