Lagos – A 40-year-old man, Kazeem Rashidi, on Wednesday appeared at an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged assault on his sisters, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Rashidi, a trader of Olarunji Street, Ojota, is facing a one-count charge of assault to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Donjour Perezi, alleged that the defendant committed the offence on July 14 around 08:20 p.m. at the above mentioned address.
Perezi said that the defendant assaulted his step sisters – Tawa Rashidi, 60, and Jumoke Rashidi, 50, by beating them and inflicting injuries on them.
He said that the defendant beat Tawa with a stick resulting in an injury on her mouth simply because she confronted him about fighting with some people on the street.
“He then beat up Jumoke by giving her several blows all over her body and injuring her face because she tried to stop him from causing harm to Tawa.”
Perezi said some people the defendant fought with on the street came to his father to report him when the defendant picked offence alleging that the sisters called him a bastard.
The prosecutor said the offence contravenes Section 171(2) and punishable under Section 172 of Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate Bukola Mogaji granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Mogaji directed that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means and they should reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned untill Aug. 21 for hearing.
