LAGOS – A 41-year-old man, Lucky Okonta, charged with stealing N663,000 from one Mrs Tosan Sagay, a businesswoman, on Monday appeared before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Okonta, a resident of Olodi-Apapa area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Kingsley Jackson, told the court that the accused conspired with others now at large and waylaid Sagay on her way home and stole N663,000 cash from her.
“The money stolen from Sagay were the proceeds of the 9,000 litres of kerosene she sold,’’ Jackson stated. [eap_ad_1] He said that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 10, 2013, at No. 9 Ayinde St., Olodi-Apapa.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravened sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 285 stipulates three years imprisonment for stealing.
Okonta, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Mukaila Fadeyi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Fadeyi said that the surety must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail conditions.
