Lagos,- A 55-year-old man, Sikiru Yusuf, was on Wednesday charged before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly damaging property valued N21 million.
Yusuf is facing a five-count charge of conspiracy, wilful and unlawful damage, manner likely to cause breach of peace and conduct causing breach of peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to all counts of the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp. Richard Odigie, told the court that the accused committed the offences with others still at large on Nov. 3, 2014 at about 9.00am.
He said that the offence was committed at No. 26, Bailey St., Abule-Ijesha, Yaba, Lagos.
Odigie said Yusuf and his accomplices entered into the compound of one Mr Babatunde Okusote, claiming to be the actual owner of the property.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“In the process, Yusuf and others at large destroyed the house on the property valued at N21 million while trying to evict Okusote.
‘’While others took to their heels, Yusuf was not lucky and was immediately apprehended,’’ he said.
The offences, Odigie said, contravened Sections 52, 53, 166(1), 348 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Ruling on the bail application, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.I. Adelaja, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till Aug.5 for mention. (NAN)
