Lagos – Master’’ Uzoma Onwuchekwa, the newly-elected President of the Nigerian Taekwondo Black Belt College (NTBBC), says he will strive to unite all the taekwondoists in the nation for better output.
Onwuchekwa, who got elected as the NTBBC president last December, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos in an interview that the body would work closely with its affiliates at the states.
He said that the college would ensure that the art was practised in schools according to international standards.
“The Nigerian Taekwondo Black Belt College has the responsibility to develop the art of taekwondo in Nigeria.
“To moderate it within the awarding of the dans and belts, especially as it relates to black belts, to encourage higher education in the martial arts.
“The first thing I need to do is bring everybody together under one umbrella; we need to operate together under one umbrella.

“We need to improve on our dojangs, we need to get a secretariat and a fully equipped library where people can come and do research on taekwondo and martial art in general in Nigeria.
“And then also we are very interested in the black belt college in youth development, we believe that the more martial artists there are in the country, the better off for Nigeria.
“What we usually do is we work with the state association who have responsibility for monitoring taekwondo in schools through various instructors.
“But we try to ensure that the instructors that instruct in these schools are accredited members of the black belt college and we can vouch for them.’’
NAN reports that Onwuchekwa who is a 2nd Dan black belter succeeded George Ashiru, a Grand Master. (NAN)
