Port-Louis – Mauritian Environment, Sustainable Development, Disaster and Beach Management Ministry launched on Monday three fact sheets on ecological footprint geared towards sensitising the community about sustainable consumption and production.
The fact sheets targeting households and the school community comprised a number of tips and useful information that could be used to make informed decisions to promote sustainable lifestyle.
The first fact sheet on “Basic facts on ecological footprint’’ provided basic information on the impacts of human activities on the environment and ways and means to measure them.
The other fact sheets relating to “Reducing ecological footprint at school and household levels’’ provide tips with regard to efficient utilisation of resources at the household and school level respectively.
“We need to review our way of living,” Environment Minister Raj Dayal said.
He added that it is through education and awareness campaigns that the citizens can be empowered to take responsible decisions in their daily lives

Dayal urged the population to adopt green attitudes by composting domestic wastes, collecting and using rainwater, planting trees, and greening and embellishing their surroundings, among others.
The minister believed the youth and the public at large would fully benefit from the information contained in these fact sheets as they contributed to the enhancement of environmental education and awareness. (PANA/NAN)
