Mbadinuju, spoke to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday in the wake of heavy criticisms against the way President Buhari is handling the country’s “ailing” economy.
He said that the opposition figures are rather impatient to allow the President fufill his promises of “change” and called on the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government to continue in the bid to salvage the fortunes of Nigeria.
He noted that the government of President Buhari, which he said, is premised on a “change mantra” was poised to actualising the desires of Nigerians to change but encumbered by the consequences of poor economic management of the recent past administration.
He said: “The central theme of APC is ‘Change’. The Oxford Advance Learners Dictionary aptly defines this concept and Nigerians are glad that this ‘Change’ was pioneered and brought into the APC manifesto and has become the centrepiece of President Muhammadu Buhari government.
“That this ‘Change’ mantra is ably supported by the ebullient and resourceful Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos State who is full of energy bodes well for Nigerians. The APC has the makings of a party destined to carry Nigeria over the turbulence of the period and bring about a country where the aspirations of every section are met.”
“What the APC should do is being careful with opponents and opposition whose trademark is “if you cant win them, join them and pull them down. But so far so good, the crop of politicians joining the APC would have good inputs to the party and we wish them well.
“APC’s recent party harmony is a good omen for the party committed to carry Nigeria to enviable heights and we must unite about this purpose. APC die-hards agree there must be change in Nigeria. Not only turning Nigeria upside down but turning the country the right-side up for the good of all countrymen,” the former governor advised.
Speaking further, Mbadinuju described as “confidence-boosting,” recent efforts by the administration as regards mitigating the harsh economic crunch reassuring that the foresight of the president was the needed panacea towards national revival.
He also praised the handling of the economy by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, saying that its a “time-tested with the capacity to save us from the dwindling economy.”
According to the APC chieftain: “The president has put a team with the necessary wherewithal to manage the backlashes of international economic dynamics and we must give them every encouragement to succeed and bequeath a greater country for all of us.
“With their handling of the economy so far focusing on plugging leaks from the national treasury and harnessing the potentials of other development sectors apart from crude-oil sales, all will be well with Nigeria.”
Mbadinuju, who was governor of Anambra State between 1999 and 2003 defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join APC on February 23, 2015 during the last presidential election, citing his disposition to Buhari’s antecedents and APC’s prospects to bring real change to Nigeria.
