MAIDUGURI- The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, has presented foodstuffs to Chibok girls and some repentant Boko Haram members.

Presenting the items at the Bulumkutu Rehabilitation Centre in Maiduguri on Thursday, Edu said that she was there to assess the situation for a better intervention.

Edu, said that the Tinubu administration is committed to take millions out of poverty which remain one of the major causes of crisis.

“This is an immediate relief, we will be coming with a more durable solution, ” Edu said.

Earlier, the Borno Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, said the rehabilitation centre had been taking care of persons affected by the insurgency.

Gambo explained that such persons include victims of gender-based violence and abducted children.

She said the victims who are helpless to trace thier families were provided with psychosocial support in collaboration with partners such as UNICEF.

A Chibok girl simply identified as Rejoice, who responded on behalf of other vulnerable women who benefitted from the palliatives, lauded the minister for the support and the Tinubu administration’s commitment in tackling poverty and insecurity.

Food items presented include rice, bean, maize, millet, cooking oil and other condiments.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the minister also paid a courtesy call on Gov. Babagana Zulum and the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar-Garba, where she solicited for thier support and cooperation in the implementation of the FG programmes in tackling poverty. (NAN)
