The approval of a new minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants in Edo State has sparked mixed reactions. According to Naija News, Governor Godwin Obaseki made the announcement on Monday during the inauguration of the Labour House. The new wage is set to take effect on Workers’ Day, May 1st, 2024.
Additionally, Governor Obaseki revealed that the Labour House would be named after Senator Adams Oshiomhole, the former governor of Edo State and representative of Edo North.
The announcement prompted diverse reactions on social media, with some commending the governor for the positive gesture, while others criticized the timing, linking the wage increase to the forthcoming state governorship election.
