Lagos – The Lagos Airport Police Command said on Thursday that no fewer than 52 persons were prosecuted for committing various offences at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, between January and March 2016.
The spokesman of the command, ASP Joseph Alabi, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
NAN reports that some of the suspects were charged with unlawful entry and touting, which contravene Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) by-laws.
Alabi said the command made 97 arrests within the period under review.
“The command was able to secure 34 convictions for the period under review,’’ he said.
The spokesman said that 19 cases were still under investigation and trial.
“This is a practical demonstration that the airport has to be secured to guarantee the safety of passengers, airline operators and other users,’’ he said.
Alabi appealed to members of the public to abide by the rules and regulations of the airport, especially on the issue of restricted areas. (NAN)
