Abuja- The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged its elected and appointed local government councilors across the country to mobilise the grassroots to vote for the party in the forthcoming general elections.
Prof. Jerry Gana, Director, Directorate of Contact and Mobilisation of PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, gave the task on Thursday in Abuja, at the PDP Councilors’ Conference.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the conference, which was the first in the series, was organised for the councilors in the North- Central zone.
It was used to launch the party’s “operation delivers your wards’’ in the coming elections and to mobilise and train the councilors as PDP mobilisation agents in the grassroots.
Gana advised that as the party`s image makers, the councilors should avoid the use of abusive languages during campaign.
He stressed that they should present President Goodluck Jonathan as a good product who has delivered on his campaign promises in every sector of the country`s economy.
“Do not waste your time to abuse people, just sale our good product in the person of President Jonathan, using our verifiable achievements to campaign to the people,’’ he said.
He maintained that President Jonathan`s administration had positively impacted all sectors of the economy, and therefore deserved re-election.
Gana said that the president had elevated the country to the largest economy in Africa and the 26th growing economy in the world.

He said that Jonathan would do more for the people and the country if he was re-elected for a second term on February. 14.
In his speech, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Muhammed Abba-Gana, charged the councillors to commence social media campaign ahead of the elections.
This, he said, was necessary to project the party positively and to disabuse the minds of the public from negative propaganda against it by the opposition.
He maintained that the conference was to demonstrate PDP`s dominance in the grassroots, claiming that it was a fact that could not be disputed.
Abba-Gana expressed optimism that if all PDP members were genuinely committed to its advancement, it would emerge victorious in the coming elections.
He further said that the party`s councilors were tested and trusted hands, adding that all they needed to ensure victory for the party in their localities, was campaign materials and necessary guidelines.
He stressed that the councilors were invited by the campaign organisation because of their closeness and fastest contact to the people at the grassroots.

He, however, urged the councilors to continue to pray for a peaceful election and for God to ensure that the will of the people prevailed.
Abba-Gana was decorated as the grand patron of PDP National Councillors’ Forum at the occasion.
Addressing the councillors earlier, the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Organisation, Sen. Ahmadu Ali, said that what would become of Nigeria, depended on the councillors, because they were the closest to the people at the local level.
“I plead with you to work from now until the day of the election as if the election is tomorrow, to ensure that we emerge victorious.
“We know that you are very strategic; we know that you are very influential and we know that you are very popular among the people.
“We are launching you to win your units, win your wards, win your friends and relations and then translate that to your local government area,” Ali, who was represented by a party chieftain, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, said. (NAN)
