Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, the wife of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has revealed her commitment to sponsoring the education of three young children left motherless after a tragic incident.
During an impromptu visit to Ogui Police Station, Enugu, where the children were in custody after their mother’s suicide by colliding with a moving vehicle, Mrs. Mbah announced that the Custos Care Foundation, under her guidance, would cover their educational expenses from nursery school to university.
The unidentified woman, reportedly grappling with depression due to the high cost of living, left her children at the police station before taking her own life. The eldest child, unable to provide information about their father or family, stated that he was lost.
Expressing deep empathy, Mrs. Mbah directed the immediate relocation of the children to a state-supported home and assured the public that their daily needs and education would be taken care of.
In her address to the media, Mrs. Mbah urged individuals facing depression to seek help and counseling, emphasizing the importance of avoiding drastic decisions. She also called on the Commissioner for the Ministry of Children, Gender, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, to intensify efforts in sensitization and counseling, particularly for those dealing with depression.
The tragic incident has sparked discussions about the challenges faced by many Nigerians amidst economic hardships attributed to President Bola Tinubu’s policies, leading to rising inflation and increased costs of goods and services.
