Ibadan – Pastor Emmanuel Adeniyi of the Banner of Christ Church, Adegbayi-Ibadan, has advised mothers to bring up their children in proper way to check decay in moral values of the society.
Adeniyi made the advice on Sunday in his sermon in Ibadan to mark the 2017 Mother’s Day.
According to him, the decay in moral values among some children in the society is as a result of improper upbringing.
He said that mothers had great roles to play if a nation must ensure crime-free society, adding that children looked up to their mothers at early stage of their life.
“Mothers are the first mentors and children look up to; therefore, mothers should play their role responsibly.
“Instil moral values in the children; let them know that crime is evil and that hard work, perseverance and prayer will lead someone to greatness,” he said.
Adeniyi also called on husbands to give necessary support to their wives, adding that husbands that used to maltreat their wives should desist, because the children were watching.
He further urged people to take care of their aged parents, especially mothers, rather than waiting till their demise “to celebrate mothers in death”.
“Some children do waste money in burying their late mothers instead of caring for them when alive,” he said.
The cleric later congratulated mothers and female folks in general for witnessing another Mother’s Day in 2017.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mother’s Day is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent annually.
It is a day set aside to appreciate and celebrate mothers for helping husbands in building good, peaceful and healthy home.
The day is also marked with gifts such as flowers, cards and other presents by children to their mothers in appreciation of the maternal bond between child and mother.
