Lagos – Mr Richard Iweanoge, General Manager, Consumer Marketing, of MTN Nigeria said the telecommunication company would focus on developing Nigerian artistes, through an innovative application known as music plus.
Iweanoge said this in Lagos on Friday at the ongoing TechPlus 2016 conference and exhibition with theme `A connected world’
He said that MTN had developed apps which any talented upcoming musician could use to train, download and stream music that would make them get connected to the world.
“There is so much more in MTN than making calls and sending messages. We are concerned with how ideas can change so many things in Nigeria.
“Products like music plus apps will enable new and upcoming artiste make money and get connected to the world through digital,“ Iweanoge said
According to Iweanoge, MTN has injected N97 million to the music industry in 2015 to bridge the gap of artistes who have talent but do not have opportunity to showcase their skills.
He said that MTN had generated 2.5 million customers within the period of one year since it developed the music plus innovation apps.
The GM said that the concept was scale and built idea to reach out to people who felt that the opportunity cannot get to them.
“During the olden days 25 per cent of money made by musician is through sales of records and 30 per cent from shows.
“But now music has gone digital, MTN in 2015 generated 30 per cent of income to musician through the apps.
He added that MTN also developed new innovation use for noise free wireless party where everyone would listen to music that would not have echo through an earphone inserted inside their ears.
