LAGOS – An official of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Mr Tajudeen Babalola on Saturday advised parents to teach their children moral values to make them useful to the society.
Babalola, the Treasurer of the Surulere Branch of the group, gave the advice at the 2014 Annual Children Harvest of the group at Ansar-Ud-Deen Grammer School, Surulere.
“Parents should monitor their movements as well as ensure good upbringing and adequate education,’’ he said.
The official noted that parents had critical roles to play in educating their children by providing them with basic needs.
He added that parents played crucial roles in the education of their children, and constituted an important influence on their learning process and achievements.
Also, Mrs Fatima Mohammed, of Bab-Salam Motherless Babies Home, Ikeja, urged parents to play their roles well so that their children would develop into responsible adults.
She urged parents not to relent in providing quality education for their children.
She said that parents were the first teachers and custodians of morals and core societal values which should be exhibited through words and character.
“Parents should strive to teach their children to be God-fearing to help them to fit properly into the society and realise their potential,’’ she said.
The Matron of the Ali-hadab School, Mrs Omolara Oresanya, blamed moral decadence and increase in crime rate among youths on failure of parents to mold their children properly.
“’Our children are the world’s most valuable assets and the best hope for the future.
“Therefore, they need to be given extra attention in order not to be swept away by the glamour of modern civilisation,’’ she said.
An SS1 student of the Ansar-Ud-Deen College, Isolo, Miss Airat Olafimihan, said that there was the need for parents to monitor their children closely to prevent them from going astray.
“Parents need to keep an eye on their children so that they can be proud of them when they grow up,’’ she said. (NAN)
