Lafia – Bishop Joseph Masin, the Chairman, Nasarawa State chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the unnecessary killings of innocent Nigerians in Southern part of Kaduna State by suspected herdsmen.
The Chairman, who is also the Bishop of the Word of God Church, made the call while briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Lafia.
He said that he was not sure of the religion of the people who went about killing innocent Nigerians in the southern part of Kaduna because no religion encouraged the killing of a fellow human being.
He urged both the Christian and Muslim leaders to rise up to their responsibilities of championing the cause of peaceful coexistence by condemning and preaching against the killings in Kaduna and in other parts of the country.
He further urged government at all levels to ensure they gave outmost priority to the protection of the lives of people rather than paying lip service to it.
The cleric called on the government to also rise up to its responsibility by ensuring they performed their basic responsibility of protecting lives and property.
He also advised both federal and the state governments to strengthen security in Southern Kaduna and other parts of the country that were prone to attacks.
“Federal Government should also strengthen security at the country’s borders to ensure that no mercenaries are brought from foreign countries for the purpose of waging war against some people,” Masin said.
The CAN Chairman also urged herdsmen to cooperate with farmers because they needed each to live in a peaceful environment.
He said that leaders of the Fulani herdsmen should collaborate with leaders of the farmers to educate their members on the need to report whatever grievances to the constituted authority for further actions.
He urged Nigerians to pray for the peace, unity and development of the country, adding that “it is only God’s intervention that will bring the country out of the problem’’.
