President Bola Tinubu has instructed a thorough reassessment of the recently unveiled governing boards of tertiary institutions in Nigeria, ahead of their scheduled inauguration and retreat.
The Federal Ministry of Education recently disclosed the list of nominees for chairpersons, Pro-Chancellors, and board members of universities, Polytechnics, and colleges of education, with plans for their official induction and retreat on May 31.
However, public feedback highlighted disparities in regional representation, with some states receiving minimal nominations while others received more.
Acknowledging the widespread concerns, the President has called for a comprehensive review of the composition of the governing councils, reaffirming his commitment to upholding the principle of federal character enshrined in the constitution.
This review will prioritize national inclusivity, ensuring equitable representation across all regions of the country.
