ABUJA – The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has called on journalists in the country to be objective in their reports to reshape the people’s thinking.
The association’s National President, Mrs Asabe Baba, said in a statement in Abuja on Saturday on the sides of the World Press Freedom Day 2014 that journalists shaped the way Nigerians assessed the country.
“NAWOJ is urging all journalists in the country to ensure that their reports shape the post 2015 development agenda,” she said.
She called on the government to step up efforts to ensure the safe return of the abducted schoolgirls, saying that security was everyone’s responsibility.
The president commiserated with the families and friends of the victims of the two Nyanya bomb blasts and prayed God to touch the perpetrators’ hearts to put an end to violence in the country.
The association also called on mothers and women associations to join her in the upcoming national prayer and fasting slated for May 5 to ensure speedy release of the abducted schoolgirls.
The theme of the 2014 World Press Freedom Day is “Media Freedom for a Better Future: Shaping the post-2015 Development Agenda”. (NAN)
