IBADAN – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Oyo State Command, on Wednesday paraded a 45-year-old unemployed graduate, Sam Oladiti and four others, for document forgery.
The State Commander, Mrs Omolade Faboyede, told newsmen in Ibadan that the individuals had collected the sum of N20,000 from one Kafayat Mustapha under the false pretence of obtaining an NDLEA Visa Clearance for her.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the other suspects included Olawale Lawal (38), Yusuf Kazeem (28), Olusina Adewale (39) and Bolaji Kayode (35).
Faboyede said that the complainant, Mustapha, discovered she was issued a forged document because it was signed with the name of a past NDLEA chairman.
According to Faboyede, the visa clearance is a requirement for travellers from Nigeria going to drug-source countries which include Thailand, India, Laos, Afghanistan and Colombia.
“NDLEA gets detailed information about a person with two guarantors and every other information that can lead to the arrest of such persons, in case of drug trafficking.
“Each state command carries out this process, but the issuance is done at our National Headquarters, which forwards the clearance to such embassies.
“It is not issued to an individual,” she said.

Faboyede said that some intending travellers to the drug-source countries try to get the visa clearance through others, because of the processing rigours. (NAN)
