Enugu – The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Tuesday lauded the Anambra Government for its prompt and rapid intervention to emergency situations in the state.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu, the South-East Co-ordinator of NEMA, Mr James Eze, said that the state government had shown commitment to ensuring safety of its residents.
NAN recalls that Anambra government swiftly responded to the Diesel Tanker inferno at Upper Iweka in Onitsha on May 31 as well as the recent Nnewi Gas Explosion episode on Dec. 24.
Eze said that the agency had watched closely and found out that Anambra government and its officials followed the incidents and its victims with the needed attention.

“If other states in the zone could be responding to emergency incident as the Anambra government and her official do; I am sure many victims of emergency would have quick succour.
“The governor’s prompt arrival at scenes of incident as quick as the message on the incident is relayed to him.
“While top government officials would always follow up the incident as well as victims of the incident to the last minute of their discharge from the hospital.
“Even on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1; you see the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Akabuike, and his team visiting hospitals where victims of the gas explosion had been hospitalised,’’ he said.
Eze, however, appealed to state governments in the zone to further equip their State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMA) to enhance their performance.
According to him, this would complement the efforts of NEMA and other humanitarian agencies in the country. (NAN)
