Abuja – The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), has said it was partnering with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) for effective monitoring and compliance to vehicular emission.
This is contained in a statement signed on Monday in Abuja by Mr Sule Oyofo, the Chief Press Secretary to the agency.
The statement said the Vehicular Emission Testing (VET) programme that would be inaugurated in August would be used as a pilot test in Abuja.
It said that centres would be created in the various satellite towns in the FCT and equipped with Bar Code System that would make the programme more standard and effective.
The statement said that the purpose of the programme was to ensure that vehicles operating in the country have the emission permit.
“With this programme, it will help to ensure that the engine of vehicles operates fully, because the agency has noticed that it has caused a lot of accident on the road.
“The FRSC officials will stop vehicle they notice bringing out smoke and check the engine of such vehicle.
“When they discover that such vehicle is producing emission it will help us to identify that something is wrong in the manufacturing of such vehicles and we will investigate such company,’’ it said.
It said that the partnership would make the programme effective and bring the emission levels under control.

The statement said that the agency and FRSC would also collaborate with other relevant security agencies, transportation sector among others to enable them play important roles that would enhance the programme. (NAN)
