Enugu – A non-governmental organisation, Tamar/SARC, has said it will partner with the media to sensitise the public on the negative impact of the rising incidences of rape in Enugu State.
The Coordinator of the organisation, Mrs Nkechi Nwabueze, said in Enugu on Tuesday that it would collaborate with the media for road shows on the major streets of Enugu.
“Following the rising cases of rape and other sexual assault in Enugu State, the Media against Sexual Violence in collaboration with the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) will embark on sensitisation against rape.
“The sensitisation became necessary as the number of reported cases of rape and other sexual assault cases handled by Tamar/SARC has increased.
“More than 365 cases of assaults were reported to Tamar/SARC with majority of them being the defilement of minors,’’ she said.
She said the organisation would use various media such as radio broadcast, hand bills, celebrities, traditional rulers, religious leaders and schools to reach out to people.

Nwabueze said that the organisation would develop messages on wrist bands, T-shirts and caps with the inscription ‘Don’t die in silence, report rape’, ‘stop sexual violence, and break the silence’.
Some of the media practitioners that attended the briefing assured the organisation of their readiness to assist in disseminating the information on the dangers of such social vice in the society and the need for it to be curbed. (NAN)
