BAUCHI – Mrs Elimina Maina, a Programme Manager with Rahma Women Initiative and Youth Development, on Friday said that the Bauchi-based Non-Governmental Organisation would train 1000 Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) care givers.
Maina disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi.
She said that the beneficiaries would be trained in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area (LGA) area to ensure that children were provided with proper care in terms of education, welfare and health.
Maina said the effort was to ensure proper care and welfare of the affected children.
She said that the training would also encourage school retention and completion of basic education.
Maina said that the programme would cover 10 communities in the LGA due to the number of OVC found in the area according to a research.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]

She said that a nutritional training would be conducted based on the available foods in the area in other to feed the children with adequate nutrients and energy-giving foods.
According to her, the programme will last for one year during which the NGO may look into similar programme in another LGA for the betterment of OVC across the state.

“ Rahma women will be working in Tafawa Balewa LGA for one year to train the 1000 care givers identified so that the children will be best catered for in terms of welfare and education,’’ she said.
Maina said the NGO would further train the women in group formation to help them to establish small scale business for their economic empowerment.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
She said that a village committee would be formed to ensure that the community took over on safe guarding OVC.
She said that the committee would include community and religious leaders, parents and members of the law enforcement agencies. (NAN)
