Usman Yusuf, the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), has stated that the Management of NHIS has concluded the processes of extending healthcare coverage to members of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The NHIS boss also disclosed that other corps members in the Scheme will also be deployed as NHIS-liaison officers across healthcare facilities in the country.
A statement from the NHIS said the Executive Secretary made the disclosure, while on a courtesy visit to the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Suleiman Kazaure, in Abuja.
He stated that the role of NHIS-Liaison Officers is to ensure that enrollees receive prompt attention and satisfaction at their choice of facility when accessing care.
Usman said that timely processing of referrals, and ensuring that enrollees are given satisfactory services at the point of care must be observed during dispensation of drugs or co-payment.
The Executive Secretary further stressed that the era of the enrollees being treated as lepers by healthcare practitioners is over, stating that “an enrolee, in my mandate, is a king”.
He hinted that he has put in place an internal, which will lead to the evolution of an efficient, dynamic, responsible and purpose-driven organisation that is well able to address the expectations of enrollees, irrespective of social and economic circumstances.
The Director General, National Youth Service Corps Brigadier General Suleiman Kazaure, while commending the NHIS Chief Executive for his efforts at driving the attainment of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The NYSC Director General also made known his resolve to support the NHIS in its quest to provide qualitative and easy access to healthcare to all Nigerians irrespective of social and economic status.
