Minna – The Niger House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the State Government to set up a commission of inquiry to probe the recent attack allegedly by herdsmen on Epogi community in Mokwa Local Government Area of the state.
The House passed the resolution on Wednesday following a motion moved under matters of urgent public importance by member representing Mokwa constituency, Baiwa Mohammed.
” Twenty one people were killed instantly in the attack and many people are still missing and cannot be accounted for.
“And apart from the lives lost, valuables and huge sums of money running into millions were carted away by the herdsmen.
“As a result of this attack, the villagers have deserted their community and are living as displaced persons in other safer communities,” Mohammed said.
He wondered why no arrests had been made by security operatives in connection with the attacks.
In his submission, Bala Abba, representing Borgu constituency, said the entire state was no longer safe as other communities could come under similar attacks.
“We are no longer safe because last week it was Epogi, tomorrow it could be another community or town.
“It is a very serious issue that requires immediate action, otherwise these senseless killings will continue unabated,” Abba said
He, therefore, called for deployment of more security operatives to the affected communities so that those fleeing could return.
Other members who spoke condemned the killings, and decried the sophisticated weapons and ammunition used by the attackers.
The House also resolved to send a delegation to commiserate with families of victims of the attack, with the speaker, Alhaji Ahmed Marafa, directing the clerk to communicate its resolutions to the Executive.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the invaders had on May 13 attacked a mosque in Epogi community in Mokwa Local Government Area, killing 21 people on the spot, while 6 others died later
