Abuja – Fouad Meskout, President, United World Wrestling Africa (UWWA), says Nigeria has adequate facilities to host the 2018 Africa Wrestling Championship.
Meskout made statement on Thursday in Abuja when he visited the Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung in company of Daniel Igali, President, Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF),
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Meskout was in Nigeria to inspect facilities in Port Harcourt ahead of the 2018 Senior Africa Wrestling Championship.
Nigeria and Tunisia are bidding for the hosting right of the championship slated to hold in February next year.
Meskout said he was satisfied with the facilities and hotels he inspected in Port Harcourt.
He added that the facilities were good enough for the hosting of the championship.
He pledged to support Nigeria to win the hosting right as Tunisia had hosted the event a number of times.
Meskout said the 2018 event would be the first time Nigeria would host the championship which would serve as qualification tournament for the World U-17 Championship.
In his response, Dalung said Nigeria had all it takes to win the hosting right and pledged that the ministry would do all necessary to secure the hosting right.
The minister solicited the support of the president of UWWA to enable Nigeria win the bid.
In his remarks, Igali said that the wresting centre in Port Harcourt has the capacity to accommodate over 5,000 spectators.
He expressed optimism that Nigeria would secure the hosting right considering the fact that the country has large number of wrestling fans and has not hosted the event since its inception. (NAN)
