The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has enthusiastically embraced Alhaji Mohammed Idris’s statement, Minister of Information and National Orientation, affirming that the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has no intentions of permitting foreign military bases within Nigeria.
The ACF praises this bold stance, viewing it as a victory for patriotic Nigerians who opposed the rumored plans to host US and French military bases in Nigeria, following similar rejections in Burkina Faso and Niger.
However, the ACF expresses disappointment with the Human Rights Writers Association (HURIWA) for supporting the establishment of such military bases, considering it against Nigeria’s principles of sovereignty and solidarity with African nations.
The ACF highlights the negative experiences of countries hosting foreign military bases and urges Nigeria to refrain from considering them, emphasizing the detrimental impact on African unity and sovereignty. The ACF calls on the Nigerian government to reject any proposals for foreign military bases and urges citizens and organizations to remain vigilant against such initiatives.
