RIVERS (Sundiata Post) – In a significant operational breakthrough, troops from the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army successfully dismantled a concealed illegal oil bunkering site during clearance operations at Umuedeokwara Community, Odogwa Town in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lieut. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma provided these details in an official statement, reaffirming the Division’s dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the nation’s economic stability.
He said the operation was executed based on credible intelligence, aimed to address criminal activities within the identified location.
Major General Jamal Abdusalam, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, and Land Component Commander of the Joint Task Force, Operation DELTA SAFE, personally inspected the site to assess the extent of the criminal activities.
Speaking to reporters on-site, the GOC expressed astonishment at the level of criminality uncovered, emphasizing the challenges of discerning such activities from aerial perspectives.
“We are here to inform Nigerians about the situation. Even from the air, using helicopters or drones, you wouldn’t perceive what we witnessed on the ground,” remarked Major General Abdusalam.
He detailed the discoveries, including reservoirs, boilers connected by a network of pipes and cables, and an unprecedented amount of crude oil.
Highlighting the economic implications, Major General Abdusalam emphasized the impact on the nation’s budget, which heavily relies on factors like crude oil production.
He revealed the discovery of 19 reservoirs, each containing a minimum of 200,000 liters of crude, totaling over 3,000,000 liters.
The GOC expressed concern about individuals engaging in crimes with substantial repercussions for the national economy.
Major General Abdusalam used the opportunity to issue a stern warning to those involved in such activities, urging them to abandon criminal pursuits and embrace legitimate endeavors for their livelihood.
He underscored the commitment of the 6 Division to restricting the freedom of action for criminals.
The GOC disclosed plans for the collaborative destruction of the illegal site with relevant agencies, signaling a comprehensive response to the situation.
