Jos – The Plateau Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has called on the state government to employ private refuse disposal companies to improve on cleanliness of the state and the heath of the people.
The state NMA Chairman, Dr Pokop Bupwatda, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Jos.
Bupwatda is a Consultant Public Health Physician at Jos University Teaching Hospital.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
He said that the involvement of the private waste contractors would not only create employment opportunity, but also assist the overwhelmed state sanitary agencies to ensure a cleaner environment. .
The NMA chairman said that the street corners presently being lined with wastes and filth with offensive stench emitting from them was hazardous to human health.
“If the government employs the services of these private refusal disposal companies, people would be mandated to have waste bins
and waste bags of refuse generated ready for evacuation at reasonable fee.
“Once we have a cleaner environment, cases of diseases transmitted by rodents and vectors would be minimised and would in turn create a healthier state and society for us all,’’ he said.(NAN)
