Lafia -Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), has said that there is no going back on local government election scheduled for February 2021 in the state.
Mr Henry Omaku, the Chairman of the Commission stated this on Tuesday when the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on NASIEC visited the commission in Lafia.
Omaku said that the commission is ready for the election and would release the election time table first week of September.
He thanked the committee for the visit and for their continuous support to the commission, and called for its sustenance.
“By God’s grace, we are ready for the conduct of the local government election in February 2021.
“The election will hold as scheduled as the election notice will be released first week of September, 2020” he said.
The chairman told the committee that NASIEC had gotten the needed support from the state government ahead of the election.
“The local government election budget is less than N1 billion, ” he said.
He assured of free, fair and credible election while soliciting for prayers and support from from all and sundry to enable the commission succeed.
Alhaji Mohammed Okpoku (APC-Udege/Loko), Chairman, House Committee on NASIEC, said they were at the commission to ascertain its level of preparedness ahead of the February, 2021 local government election in the state.
Okpoku assured of the assembly’s readiness to give the commission the necessary support to conduct free, fair and credible election in the state.
“We are ready to support the commission to succeed and to conduct free, fair and credible local government election in the state, ” he said.
The chairman said that the committee would collaborate with the state government in order to ensure the success of the election.
Okpoku also used the visit to congratulate the commission’s chairman on his nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari as Ambassador designate.
