Jos, Dec. 30, 2015 (NAN) Mr Bulus Dabit, the Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Plateau, has called for collective efforts by Nigerians to tackle corruption and insurgency.

Dabit told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Jos that the fight against corruption and insurgency was collective and should not be left only to security agencies.

He said all hands must be on deck to flush out corruption and insurgency in the country, adding that there was need for active involvement of the family unit and communities.

According to him, the family and community must be responsible enough to expose persons of questionable character in their midst.

“ Nigerians must be resolute in the fight against corruption and insurgency if we must progress in this country; security agencies alone cannot do everything.

“The family must live up to its responsibility in counselling their wards against such social vices as the first unit of socialisation in the society.

“When children are not properly trained in the family they are easily convinced to join bad groups and engage in negative practices; moreover, families know who the insurgents are in their communities.

“ The community has the civic responsibility of providing information to security agencies about persons of unusual character or activities among them.

“ Religious leaders too must entrench values to promote peaceful co-existence and good virtues for adherents.

“ Families as well as community and religious leaders should expose people that have been radicalised.

“This trait will fast track the success in the fight against corruption and insurgency and eventually accelerate development in the country, “ he said. (NAN)
