WARRI (Delta) – Hosts Warri Wolves Football Club on Sunday thrashed visiting El-Kanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri 3-1 at the Warri Township Stadium.
This was in one of the week 19 fixtures of the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Substitute Kelvin Itoya scored a brace for the home side, with goals in the 77th and 81st minutes of the explosive encounter.
Sikiru Alimi netted the third goal for Warri Wolves in the 86th minute, while Samuel Mathias scored El-Kanemi’s consolation goal in the 90th minute.
The visitors gave a good account of themselves in the better part of the first half, taking total control of the midfield but only being wasteful upfront.
The home side also had a good game in the first half but could not convert into goal the numerous scoring chances they created.
During the post-match interview, the coach of El-Kanemi Warriors, Ladan Bosso, said the game was good.
The former national under-20 male team coach said they would work on their weaknesses ahead of their next game.
“We played a good game, but we lost concentration in the last 15 minutes and conceded three goals.
“We have seen where we made mistakes and we have to work on them.
“Now, we are in mid-season, we have to reinforce by getting one or two players so that they can add more bite to the team,” he said.
Itoya who was voted Man of the Match dedicated his brace to God and his team.
“I thank God for the victory, but it was through team work.
“However, King Osanga was injured in the first half and in the second half we made changes and the result came,” he said.(NAN)
