NRA to promote, demote referees to enhance better officiating

ILORIN – The President Referees Association (NRA), Ahmed Maude, on Sunday said any referee whose performance was adjudged to be below expectations would be demoted.

Maude told the News Agency Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview the improved officiating witnessed in the Glo Premier League was a testimony to the association’s determination.

He said the association was trying to improve on officiating in the National League (NNL), admitting however the body had not done enough in the lower division.

The NRA president acknowledged there were bad referees, but noted that this should not the whole system faulty.

“If a referee is not doing well in the NNL, there is no way we can bring such person to the Premier League. So, we must our league stronger by ensuring we have a good NNL.

“What we will now do henceforth is we will start demoting those who are not doing well in the various leagues and promote those who have distinguished themselves,” Maude said.(NAN)
