ILORIN – The President of Nigeria Referees Association (NRA), Ahmed Maude, on Sunday said any referee whose performance was adjudged to be below expectations would be demoted.
Maude told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview that the improved officiating witnessed in the Glo Premier League was a testimony to the association’s determination.
He said the association was trying to improve on officiating in the Nigeria National League (NNL), admitting however that the body had not done enough in the lower division.
The NRA president acknowledged that there were bad referees, but noted that this should not make the whole system faulty.

“If a referee is not doing well in the NNL, there is no way we can bring such person to the Premier League. So, we must make our league stronger by ensuring we have a good NNL.
“What we will now do henceforth is that we will start demoting those who are not doing well in the various leagues and promote those who have distinguished themselves,” Maude said.(NAN)
