Katsina – The National Teachers Institute (NTI) has established 11 teachers pivotal programme centres in Katsina State to prepare teachers to acquire the National Certificate of Education (NCE).
The NTI Coordinator in Katsina State, Malam Bashir Yashe, made the disclosure on Monday at a news conference in Katsina, adding that
eight of the centres were established by the Institute, while three were created by the state government.
He said 1,080 teachers were selected from different parts of the state to benefit from the training offered by the centres.
Yashe said that the commencement of the training programme was part of efforts to phase out teachers without the required teaching qualification in the state.
According to him, eight NCE centres, a post graduate diploma in education and Bachelor of Education programmes are opened to boost teacher training in Katsina State.
The coordinator added that so far, 3,000 students had enrolled for the above programmes in the state.
He said that recently, 1,000 fresh students matriculated for various courses offered by the Institute.
He explained that the target was for Katsina State to have enough professional teachers for both primary and secondary schools by 2020.
He advised teachers that were yet to acquire the teaching qualification to register with the pivotal teacher training programme that was available in the state.
Yashe commended the state government for sponsoring some of the students pursuing their NCE and degree programmes. (NAN)
