Enugu – The Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Council, on Monday celebrated the birthday of Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at Guardian Angel Motherless Babies Home, Enugu.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor will mark his 54th birthday on March 20.
Members of the chapel as part of the conviviality with the governor made donations to the home as part of activities and buildup to the event.
Some of the items donated, included toiletries, cartons of pamper, confectioneries and fruit drinks among others.
The NUJ National Vice President, South-East, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, said that members of the chapel chose to celebrate the governor with the less privileged as a mark of honour.
Isiguzo said that the governor had shown himself to be a friend to the poor and downtrodden, adding that there was no better way to mark his 54th birthday.
He said that Ugwuanyi had done well in the last three years, adding that he needed the prayers of all to make good decisions and deliver dividends of democracy to the people of Enugu.
“Do not forget to remember him in your prayers for him to continue to make decisions that will positively affect the lives of residents of the state,” Isiguzo said.
Earlier, the Acting Chairman of the Chapel, Mr Felix Nwadioha, said that members of the chapel were pleased to be associated with the inmates in the home.
Nwadioha, who handed over the gift items to the matron of the home, said that the gesture was in line with the benevolent nature of the governor.
Responding, the Matron of the home, Sister Agnes Ibewuike, thanked the group for the gesture, which she said, would go a long way in assisting in upbringing of the children.
Ibewuike said that most of the children in the home were abandoned by their parents adding that it had not been very easy to meet their needs.
“We want this act of benevolence from you to continue and we wish the governor well in his future endeavours,” she said.
She said that Ugwuanyi had done well in all spheres of his administration and promised that the management of the home would continue to pray for him.
“We really want Enugu to look special as well as become a model to other States,” Ibewuike said. (NAN)
