Enugu – Mr Petrus Obi, Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) South-East, has congratulated the governors of Enugu, Ebonyi and Abia for their victory at the polls.
Obi also congratulated the Governor-elect of Imo, Mr Emeka Ihedioha, saying that Ihedioha deserved the victory.
He gave the commendation in a statement he issued to newsmen in Enugu on Wednesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that INEC announced results of winners of governorship elections held in four states in the South-East last Saturday.
Obi called on political parties to acknowledge that the “people have spoken through their votes’’, adding that all must “respect the wishes and aspirations of the people.’’
He reminded those elected that their victory was for the people who they would serve for the next four years.
“The election on Saturday in Enugu State which I personally monitored and other states in the South-East, were peaceful and hitch-free.
“INEC and the electorate played their roles well for the success of the polls at the end of the day,’’ he said.
The NUJ boss said that Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi and Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia got re-elected as a result of their people-oriented development strides and general good governance.
“However, it is time to take Imo to a new height with the victory of Mr Emeka Ihedioha at the helm,’’ he said.
Obi expressed delight on how some governors in the zone had demystified governance by carrying people along through their people-oriented governance, even to the grassroots level in their various states.
He called on them to continue to run an all-inclusive administration, adding that their appointees and projects should cut across party affiliations.
“In about four years into your administration, we expect that more lives and communities will be touched with highly needed development projects,’’ he said.
