Calabar- Visiting City of David (COD) Football Club of Lagos on Saturday defeated Pelican Stars of Calabar, 2-1 to secure three points in the ongoing Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there was low turnout of spectators at the U.J Esuene Stadium, venue of the match.
Madverosi Chinenye of COD got a brace in the 36th and 43rd minutes of the game to give her team the lead.
In the second half, Pelican Stars captain, Patos Moses, scored the only goal for the home side in the 50th minute to reduce the score line.
Coach of COD, Eucharia Uche, said that her team deserved the win.
Uche said that her team played better than their opponent.
The coach, however, lauded the referees for their fairness and competency.
“Its not easy to come all the way from Lagos to Calabar and secure three points.
“I must commend my players for putting smiles on our faces this weekend,’’ she said.
Pelican Stars coach, Adat Egan, expressed displeasure over his team`s loss.
“My team played well; but in any game as we know, there must be a winner and loser.
“We will do better in our next game,’’ Egan said.
