PANAMA CITY – The U.S. and Cuban presidents have spoken by phone for only the second time in more than 50 years, US and Cuban sources said on Friday.
However, precisely, when Barack Obama and Raul Castro spoke has remained unclear.
A White House official said in a statement that the two leaders talked by telephone Wednesday before Obama left Washington to travel to regional summits in Jamaica and Panama.
Jorge said in a social media account that the two men had a telephone conversation “minutes before” U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry met late Thursday with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez, in Panama.

Neither side shared details of the conversation. Obama and Castro are set to meet officially for the first time at the Summit of the Americas in Panama, taking place Friday and Saturday.
