ABUJA (Sundiata Post) Case 1:
Late 1998, going by the meetings and assurances he got from his friends and associates who populated AD’s 23 “wise men”, the late Bola Ige left for London. In fact, one of them saw him to the airport. And so sure was Bola Ige of picking the AD ticket that he told Obasanjo at Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, that “they would meet on the field”. My humble self was at that event late 1998. But by the time he came back, the AD presidential ticket was firmly with Olu Falae.
Case 2:
Obasanjo went to the official residence of late former Senate President, Chuba Okadigbo, for commissioning. He spoke good words about him and ate pounded yam and egusi soup. Okadigbo became former Senate President less than SEVENTY-TWO hours later. Obasanjo was centrally instrumental to his removal.
Case 3: Former Rivers State governors, Peter Odili, was just waiting for his name to be announced as the running-mate to the late Umaru Yar’Adua. Obasanjo had assured him and he had the backing of his colleague governors. Or so he thought. A five-minute meeting between Nuhu Ribadu, then EFCC boss, and couple of others in Aso Rock led to a certain Goodluck Jonathan being announced in stead of Odili. He was dazed and in shock for days.
Case 4:
At the burial of late Sir Michael Otedola, former governor of Lagos State, President Goodluck Jonathan was in attendance. So also was former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Obasanjo carefully waited outside for Jonathan and greeted him and they hugged. They had a tete-a-tete for few minutes. These were days after he wrote a scathing letter to Jonathan effectively dashing hopes of his second term. In fact, the next public event of Obasanjo was hosting APC leaders where he was named their navigator.
And now…
If the photos of Obasanjo and Buhari in Ethiopia are “shacking” you Buhari supporter and you think the two have become new friends, then you are a poor student of history and naive follower of the power game. One key point in power game: GIVE YOUR ENEMY FAKE ASSURANCE AND HIT HIM WHEN HE LEAST EXPECTS.
By the way, were they supposed to avoid themselves and start fighting in Addis Ababa?
